Hodgkin's disease, lymphocyte depleted type

Epidemiology: 1) least common variant of Hodgkin's disease. 2) more common in older people and HIV+ individuals. Pathology: 1) diffuse infiltrate, often hypocellular 2) large numbers of Reed-Sternberg cells & bizarre variants Immunophenotype: tumor cells - CD15 +/- - CD30 + - CD45 - - B-cell & T-cell antigens - (required for diagnosis) - EMA - Genetics: - Ig & TCR genes germline Clinical manifestations: 1) frequently abdominal lymphadenopathy, spleen, liver & bone marrow involvement without peripheral adenopathy 2) usually advanced stage at diagnosis 3) response to treatment similar to other subtypes
